As promised yesterday, find my fun Friday topic below….

Vk’s topic on what to do with the “Icon” got me thinking……

Purely from an art and architecture perspective…..my question is…..

As we travel on business what airport brings us most pleasure as we travel through it, making our daily dreary drudge through them a bit brighter, uplifting our spirit above the clouds without the aid of our aircraft?

And I’m cheating a bit; my nomination for BT regulars is obviously going to be YVR, a destination that is not on my business travel network…so any airport will do!!

    See link below…….

    Enjoy!!

I would put a vote in for San Francisco International Airport because of its museum displays in many of its terminals. The displays change periodically and you never know what you’ll find. Collections have included antique typewriters to my personal favorite — a collection of airline memorabilia. Spending some time looking at the displays can make you, at least briefly, forget you are in an airport.

I would like to include some natural art, thinking in particular about the Butterfly Garden at Changi. It’s a very relaxing place to spend some time before your flight.

The Rijksmuseum outpost at Schiphol. Why can’t there be a British Museum outpost at LHR? (Answer – because the space is used by shops and shops and shops….)

I like some of the more subtle art – take Concorde motif in the tube station at LHR:

…and the Concorde design throughout the lounges at T5, shown here on the seatcovering fabric:

…and if you’re delayed, there’s plenty of time to seek out the hidden art within the installations in the T5 First lounge:
