Quite muggy out there this morning, and an early meeting necessitated the tube. Aaaargh 🙁

Fantastic experience! Brand new train, fully air conditioned and a delight to use.

I haven’t seen this sort of trainset on that line before; very impressive.

    – wider doors which speeds up boarding at busy stations
    – floorspace for standing maximised as useable carriage space increased
    – noise reduced by toughened single glazed glass and better fitting doors
    – smoother ride
    – large typeface on the LED screens
    – walkthrough carriages reduce overcrowding
    – still the same old comfy padded seats

    What a transformation!

They should be working as thankfully the units are not paid up union members…..

Not sure whether they are on the northen line though…

Rolling stock refurb is in hand, but no a/c on those trains I don’t believe:

    http://www.railway-technology.com/projects/london-underground-northern-line-upgrade-and-extension/

“The Northern Line is one of the oldest and busiest tube lines on the London Underground network.”

The line is operated with a fleet of 106 new 1995 Stock type trains that entered service between 1997 and 2000 replacing the old 1959 Stock and 1972 Stock trains. The 1995 Stock trains offering a maximum speed of 100km/h were manufactured by Alstom.

The Northern Line trains have been undergoing refurbishment programme by Alstom since the beginning of 2013. Both the interior and exterior of the trains are being upgraded, which includes fitting wheelchair spaces and upgrading passenger information systems.
The refurbishment of the first train was completed in May 2013, with the project expected to be completed in 2014.

The Met, Circle, Hammersmith and City lines are now fully operated by air con trains now. Plus a few district line services from Wimbledon to Edgware Road via Earls Court.

Thanks Killereye, interesting info. Is there a web link so I can read further into this?

The lines that need it least (those with significant portions above ground) have air-conditioning!
