Slightly returning to flying and I looked to fly to Dublin so I checked EI.

I now see that there is an option to bring up to 10k handbaggage but you need to choose

    1. check it in for free (you can still bring on a personal item such as handbah or laptop etc)

    or

    2. Pay an extra €10 and bring it on board (again the personal item is free in addition)

Taking option 2 also convers “Faster Boarding”

All quite interesting but it seems to me to be a

“Pay €10 extra to aviod check in queues and the wait at the luggage hall at the far end”.

Is this likely to become the norm?

If I am going to check in a regular bag then the I expect there is no reason to pay the extra.

Still, it has got me thinking about the “Value” of avoiding baggage check in queues and the wait at the far end (can add 30 mins wait)
