I consider this new change worthy of its own thread, as it is a key route for business travellers on this forum.

    http://airlineroute.net/2012/12/23/aa-jfklhr-s13/

American Airlines starting 31MAR13 is reducing New York JFK – London Heathrow operation, with its own operation reduces from 5 to 4 daily. AA138/139 service will be cancelled.

As a result of the service reduction, the oneWorld member is modifying planned Boeing 777-300ER operation from 09MAY13.

Due to the transatlantic joint venture operated by AA/BA/Iberia the frequency may be replaced by a BA flight, as AA have chosen to do by discontinuing the Boston flights next summer but transferring the flight to BA operation.

However, at the same time, it is replacing an additional one (as one was previously announced) of the existing frequencies with the brand new 777-300ER aircraft which will be adding roughly 63 seats per flight, including new products in all classes, good news for all (especially J pax) but economy passengers, who are stuck in a 3-4-3 configuration.

It remains to be seen if BA will be replacing the lost frequency however, the capacity changes seem to indicate not.

    Good news or bad?

AA used to have 6 flights a day on the route, and now they’re down to 4. Maybe something to do with the Delta/Virgin tie up?

P.S. The schedule posted shows two 777-300ERs daily, not one.

    Sorry, I’ve changed that now.

Considering the tie-up and JV has only just been announced and no details yet, this reduction is unlikely to be related.
