Having bribed family to (rarely) baby-sit for my wife’s birthday next month, I wonder whether anyone has any recommendations for a great destination for a romantic dinner and overnight stay, using Star Miles (I have up to 120,000 to burn with SAS, 60,000 of which expire this year). Ideally we would travel lunchtime to lunchtime from Heathrow.

    Geneva using Swiss
Luzern (flight to Zurich then about 1 hour train)

    Vienna with Austrian

I love Italy but with Star Alliance…

Lisbon is a nice destination (or coast nearby) and could still be warm (or warmer than scandinavia or Germany perhaps) and TAP is *A.

Try Lugano via Zurich. The ZRH – LUG bit is free, no extra miles needed. Autumn is in the air and it’s beautiful here at the moment. Some great hotels and great restaurants which despite the high franc still offer great value compared to London.
