Time and Again

A year to remember

Trends come and go but it’s always the classic that we go back to. Celebrating its 150th anniversary, Chopard has launched a limited edition of the L.U.C 1937 model. It was in 1937 that the founder’s grandson Paul-André Chopard decided to leave the Jura region, where Louis-Ulysse Chopard set up his first workshop, to establish the brand in Geneva. There are two styles –  one with a porcelain-type white dial and the other with a satin-finished silver-toned dial – and both are powered by the new high-performance L.U.C 1.010 movement with 28,800 vibrations per hour.

Chopard can be found at Changi Airport’s Terminal 3, after immigration.

Classic upgrade

The sport-chic design of a chronograph suits the lifestyle of the business traveller – it’s both casual and classy. Baume & Mercier’s Capeland collection is the contemporary reinterpretation of a historic timepiece – a single-push chronograph from 1948. Ergonomically shaped, it combines functions such as tachymeter, telemeter and water resistance up to 50m, with aesthetic elements such as a calfskin strap with light-coloured stitching, pocket watch-style dial and sapphire crystal case back offering a view of the oscillating weight engraved with the brand’s emblematic Phi and “Côtes de Genève”.

The ultimate colour

Black is a colour that always stirs up the imagination; it can be classic, it can be intimidating and it can be mysterious. But as a watch, it can exude a sense of confidence and power. From its Daniel Roth Collection, Bulgari has released the special-edition Endurer Chronosprint All Blacks with treated steel case and black dial with Maori tattoo pattern. It features a patented large window-type date display, rubber bracelet with steel inserts and Chronosprint function for hours and minutes, and is water resistant to 100m.

Airports with Bulgari outlets include Changi, London Heathrow (after security) and Frankfurt (Terminal 1).

Round and round

From one of IWC’s most famous collections, Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Days continues the classical style with a circular case with smooth, flowing strap horns. Various displays like date and power reserve are thoughtfully arranged on the dial, which comes in slate colour, silver-plated or black, with the former being set against a red-gold case and the latter two stainless steel. Indices are either in red gold, rose gold-plated or rhodium-plated. It is an elegant watch for those who are meticulous, thoughtful and composed.

IWC is available at Hong Kong International Airport (Departures East Hall, Level 6).

Legend reinvented

Piaget Polo FortyFive is a titanium watch of sporty design and technical mastery. It was first launched in 2009 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Piaget Polo, and this year two new interpretations are rolled out: the Piaget Polo FortyFive with an openworked dial and the Piaget Polo FortyFive Lady. The bracelet and the case are seamlessly integrated and the daring combination of grade 5 titanium, vulcanised rubber and steel gives it a whimsical feel. It is water resistant to 100m and perfect for the active type.

Piaget has its own boutique at Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport.

Innovative tradition

Hot off the showcase of Basel, Patek Philippe’s new 5208P Men’s Grand Complications is the first wristwatch by the prestigious watchmaker to combine a chronograph, a minute repeater, and an instantaneous perpetual calendar with aperture displays. It features two patented silicon-based innovations, a Spiromax balance spring and Pulsomax escapement. These features make the movement less susceptible to environmental factors such as changes in temperature, and allow better consistency. The case is made of 950 platinum, which is unusual in itself. The cool sophistication of the design makes this a timepiece for the real connoisseur.

Golden gem

From Tiffany & Co., the new Atlas Gent Square Chronograph with a 40mm 18-carat red-gold case is characterised by its Atlas Gent DNA: the Roman numerals on the hour track, the “Clous de Paris” detailing, prominent lugs and the six matt incisions on the bezel. At the centre of the brown dial are the “Tiffany T” tapisserie and three square sub-dials. The design is dynamic yet graceful, with a touch of surprise. This design offers a 52-hour power reserve and is water-resistant to 100m.

Tiffany & Co. can be found at Terminal 1 of Hong Kong International Airport.
