Regent Hotels and Resorts will return to the Americas later this year with a beachfront property in California.

The hotel brand originally owned the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Los Angeles, now operated by Four Seasons, but the property has not been Regent-owned since 1995. Regent Hotels and Resorts is now returning to California, opening a property in Santa Monica. This will be a rebranding and renovation of a former hotel belonging to Strategic Hotels and Resorts.

The Regent Santa Monica Beach, located steps from the Santa Monica Pier, will include a restaurant with an as-yet unnamed celebrity chef, a “high-end artisanal marketplace”, a beachfront pool deck with multiple pools, a spa and wellness centre.

Julienne Smith, chief development officer, Americas, IHG Hotels and Resorts, said:

“Regent Santa Monica Beach is the start of a bright future for the brand in the Americas, emphasizing our strategic focus on luxury and lifestyle growth globally. We are also particularly thrilled to be partnering with Strategic Hotels & Resorts, a trusted owner of IHG-branded hotels for many years, on this endeavour.”

IHG Hotels and Resorts acquired the Regent brand in 2018, which at the time had only six hotels.

The property will join properties in Shanghai, Vietnam’s Phu Quoc, Chongqing, the soon-to-open Regent Hong Kong and recent reopening of Carlton Cannes, A Regent Hotel.

Carlton Cannes reopens following two-year renovation

The opening of the hotel will also precede those of Regent Bali Canggu and Regent Shanghai on The Bund in late 2023, with plans for properties in Kyoto, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Shenzhen and Sanya within the next few years.
