Budget carrier Frontier Airlines plans to install new Recaro slimline seats across its new Airbus fleet. The airline, which brands itself as America’s greenest, said the Recaro SL3710 seats are 30 per cent lighter than existing seats and will help reduce its environmental footprint.

Weighing in at eight kilograms, the Recaro seats feature redesigned armrests, a larger tray table, and improved comfort, according to the carrier.

KLM, the Dutch full-service airline, has also opted for the same seat design as a launch customer, reported Aviator News.

Barry Biffle, CEO at Frontier Airlines, said:

“Frontier Airlines is committed to maintaining our position as America’s greenest airline and our current fleet is 43 per cent more fuel efficient on average than other US airlines.

“The lighter weight Recaro seats will result in tens of thousands of gallons of fuel savings on a single aircraft while improving comfort. Less fuel means reduced operating costs which translates to savings that we can pass on to consumers in the form of low fares.”

Owned by private equity company Indigo Partners, Frontier has a mix of A320neos, A321neos, and A321XLRs on order. The first of the 156 new aircraft is expected to arrive in March 2021.
