The new Sanya Edition hotel has opened, the latest property from Edition Hotels and the group’s first property in China. The Edition hotels brand was formed as a collaboration between Marriott International and American hotelier Ian Schrager, and currently operates properties in London, Miami Beach and New York.
The Sanya Edition, which officially launched on Friday, December 9 with a gala event, is located within 20.2 hectares of tropical landscape on the southern tip of the Chinese island of Hainan.
A total of 512 residential-style guestrooms are available, including 46 suites. Meanwhile, the sales launch of the property’s 37 villas, which range in size from 450 sqm to 1,000 sqm and include a private garden, terrace, swimming pool and parking lot, also began on Friday. The villas offer ocean views approximately 200 metres from the Haitang Bay shore.
Also launched during the event was the Limited Edition shop, which displayed exclusive art pieces co-curated by the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art Beijing and Steven Giles of Base Project. Guests were also able to dine at one of the hotel’s speciality restaurants, Market at Edition, followed by cocktails at the rooftop Sky bar, which offered views of a fireworks display.
Following the launch of the Sanya property, Edition is planning to open a slew of new properties globally over the next three years. These include: Bangkok, Abu Dhabi and Barcelona in 2017; Shanghai, Times Square New York, Reykjavik and West Hollywood in 2018; and Wuhan, Bali, Singapore and Dubai in 2019.
