Starwood Hotels and Resorts has announced plans to operate three hotels in the Cuban capital Havana.
The group will rebrand the iconic Hotel Inglaterra under its Luxury Collection offering, while Hotel Quinta will become the Four Points by Sheraton Havana.
Both properties will be rebranded later this year, following renovation works.
The 83-room Hotel Inglaterra (pictured) is one of the oldest hotels in Cuba, and is located close to Havana’s Capitolio. It features a rooftop terrace overlooking Central Park and the Gran Teatro de La Habana.
Hotel Quinta is situated in the city’s Miramar district, and will feature 186 rooms and state-of-the-art business facilities when it is rebranded under Starwood’s Four Points offering.
The group has also signed a Letter of Intent to rebrand the 19th-century colonial-style Hotel Santa Isabel on Plaza de Armas. Pending US Treasury Department approval Starwood will operate the 27-room property as a Luxury Collection hotel.
Commenting on the announcement Starwood’s CEO Thomas B Mangas said:
“With Cuba’s rich history, natural beauty and strong culture, there is no question the entire US hospitality industry has watched Cuba with great interest, and we are thrilled to lead the charge and bring our sophisticated, high-end brands into the market at this inflection point.”
Earlier this month several US carriers including United and American announced their proposals for the relaunch of commercial flights to Cuba.
