Accor’s upmarket Sofitel brand has returned to the Moroccan capital of Rabat, with the opening of a 229-room property set in a 20-acre “Andalusian Park”.

Previously the Hilton International Rabat, the Sofitel Rabat Jardin des Roses has benefited from “extensive renovations”, and now offers Sofitel signature spa and fitness facilities, as well as an outdoor pool, 11 meeting rooms and dining choices including French eatery El Patio, and Moroccan restaurant Al Warda.

The revamped property has been designed by the French-Moroccan team of interior designer Didier Gomez and architect Karim Chakor, with the three recurrent Moroccan elements of water, roses and amber throughout the hotel. Rooms feature Arabic wooden decorative panels which slide out of the way to reveal views of the city or Andalusian gardens.

Accor currently has four properties in the Moroccan capital – Le Diwan Rabat (an M Gallery-branded hotel which was previously a Sofitel), the Mercure Rabat Sheherazade, and the Ibis Moussafir Rabat.

Sofitel Rabat Jardin des Roses is the brand’s fifth property in Morocco, joining others in Agadir, Fes, Essaouira and Marrakech. Business Traveller will be reviewing the Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial next month.
