Intercontinental Hotels Group will unveil a new Indigo-branded property this autumn in China – Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town.
The 70-room property is located in the 800-year-old, Unesco-registered Lijiang Ancient Town, also known as Dayan Ancient Town. The area used to be a popular location for tea traders to spend the night whilst traveling along the "tea-horse trail" – a former network of mule caravan paths that winded through the Yunnan mountains.
The hotel features a semi-modern design infused with Naxi and Tibetan ethnic motifs, as well as inspiration from the surrounding landscape. Interior's of the superior rooms, for example, carry elements of the nearby snow-capped Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, while deluxe rooms embrace the horse-trail theme with lighting fixtures and the clothes racks in the form of horse shoes. Super deluxe rooms, meanwhile, are inspired by the horse caravans used by the tea traders.
Hotel Indigo Lijiang Ancient Town is a strategic point in IHG’s plan to expand its boutique Indigo brand across China. Along with its landmark hotel in Shanghai, the group also has two Indigo branded properties in Xiamen (see here) and Tianjin.
