BA to fly A380 twice-daily to Miami

11 Nov 2014 by GrahamSmith

British Airways will launch two daily A380 services to Miami next October.

The move is part of BA's plans to "enhance the usage" of its facilities at London Heathrow T3 and T5 by combining its operations in two terminals and moving out of T1.

Over the next 12 months, flights to 20 BA destinations, including Miami, will change terminals at Heathrow. By the middle of October 2015, all of the carrier's services will depart from either its flagship T5 home or from the main Oneworld alliance LHR base in T3.

Flight BA207 will depart LHR at 0910 and land in Miami at 1355 local time, with return service BA206 taking-off from Miami at 1710 and arriving back in London at 0630 the next day.

The other A380 service will see flight BA209 leaving LHR at 1335 and arriving in Miami at 1820 local time, with return flight BA208 leaving Miami at 2050 and landing in London at 1005 the next day.

Lynne Embleton, BA's director of strategy, said: "The acquisition and integration of Bmi into British Airways has been a great success but one of its challenges was having to split our flights between three terminals for more than three years while the new Heathrow Terminal 2 was being built."

She added: "British Airways' A380 services have proved to be really popular with our customers and we are confident that Miami will be equally successful as part of our Atlantic joint business with American Airlines, US Airways, Iberia and Finnair."

In September, BA announced it will roster the A380 onto its Heathrow to San Francisco route next summer (see news, September 10).
