Thai Airways to fly B747 to Heathrow

18 Sep 2014 by GrahamSmith

Thai Airways will roster a B747-400 onto its double-daily Bangkok to London Heathrow service from October 26.

The jumbo jet will replace the incumbent A340-600 on flights TG910 and TG916 to London and the respective TG911 and TG917 return services to Bangkok.

In terms of capacity change, both first and economy class will see a significant increase in seats available, while the business class cabin will be downsized.

Thai maintains two different configurations for its B747 aircraft, and while it has not been revealed which one will be deployed onto the route, both sport smaller business class cabins when compared to the A340.

The airline is currently running a slightly reduced service between Bangkok and LHR until October 25 (see news, July 21).

The change in aircraft follows a recent trend by Thai to deploy the B747 onto many high-density routes. The carrier recently announced that it will continue to serve the Bangkok to Sydney route with the B747, instead of replacing it with the B777, as originally planned.

In addition, Thai will soon be replacing the A340 currently serving the Bangkok to Milan Malpensa route with the B747.
