Don’t know if you guys caught this ad but it’s been blowing up on Indian and NRI (Non Resident Indian) social media. I wasn’t that impressed with the ad (I mean, the ad, the ol’ lady and the FA are all brilliant) but seems unrealistic, unnecessarily soapy and it doesn’t really tell me much about BA. That said, it seems to be doing its job in the subcontintent (where a good ol’ pull at the heart strings still works).

    Legacy crew wearing uniform hat?
Why was the elderly lady looking for nits in the crew members hair?
Uniform standards require hair to be smart and above the collar..
Looks like the crew member was accepting a tip from the old lady!!

Cabin crew management would have a fit if they saw this…..oops!

In reply to openfly: Legacy crew on A380 and 787 do wear their hats.

I’m sure if I grabbed hold of a female cabin crew member like the Indian lady did, I’d be kicked off the flight and banned from BA forever!!

Cheers for the link Markiv, a really nice aspirational advert. Also noticed the nice little touch at the end making reference to BA’s loyalty to India.

All in all, the old lady made a good choice flying CW and not the cramped Y cabin of the dreamliner.

Hopefully, some of our BA cabin crew will watch it and pass comment. Would love to hear their take on it.

    Anyway,well done to BA’s advertising team….

Edit to add: She reminds me of an ex and happy times from many a year ago …….

    Hello MarkivJ

My first reaction was I want to go back to India.
And then I thought that there are many (of course not all) exemplary BA crew.

I thought it is / was a great advert (but then there will always be anti-BA nit-picking (not from the FA’s hair) on here)

Beautiful advert, a reminder of how powerful marketing can be when done well.

I’ve never seen an airline advert (from any carrier) that remotely related to my experience on board, including this one.

Having said that, it is clear narrowly targeted at the Indian market and will no doubt be well received there.

As openfly has already pointed out, the whole ad contains a litany of errors to the frequent traveller who knows a little bit about the airline, but then again, this is not the target segment for the ad.

I must disagree – I am by no means a regular BA flyer (about ten times a year) but I have on many times found the crew polite and helpful and that is being displayed here. Of course the advert did not reflect the reality of actual operations – that was not its point.

I wasn’t talking about crew politeness/professionalism, that should be a given on a top rate airline.

I’m talking about marketing puffery v real world experience.

Here’s an example from an airline I use 50+ times every year.

FDOS_UK – I too am a regular with Emirates and I agree their service is very good but I am beginning to lose track of the point you are making.

This was an advert for BA, by its very nature it is not a reflection of reality but marketing. One might equally argue that the noise levels are not reflective of an actual flight or that an elderly Indian woman whose son is the CEO of a major Indian company is unlikely to be traveling alone.
Advertising is not about reality or did you think that the Jennifer Aniston Emirates advert was ‘real’ as well ? 🙂

Fully agree with Charles-P, this BA ad is superb and sends a powerful message. I like the Emirates one as well, but it is no more realistic in what one can expect than the BA ad. There have been plenty of comments on this Forum of where EK fails miserably, where their products differ dramatically from one type or aircraft to another, where they are more glitz than substance, young, inexperienced staff, and when things go bad, the airline is not able to cope. While I am no BA apologist, and have moved most of my travel from BA to LH group, I don’t think any airline is perfect, nor lives up to their own PR 100% of the time. Advertising is meant to sell, and both ads do that very well.

I think you have misunderstood my point, the EK video is in the same boat as the BA video – it will do a good job in marketing, but cannot be confused with the real world.

As for the Jennifer Aniston video, I won’t even comment on that beyond saying that EK first class was never like that on the five or six occasions I expeinced it.

    dutchyankee

My point is that I’ve never seen an airline ad that reflects reality and I posted the EK video to support that point.
