LeTigreParticipantAs the other thread on this subject has descended into bickering again, I have decided this development deserves its own thread.
Anyway, sources from BA and other internet based sources indicate BA is going to start flights to Chengdu next September. No more details.
One would imagine frequencies would be less than daily (4x?) and served with B787 aircraft which suit this route due to capacity, efficiency and delivery time (which is why it is scheduled for September, most likely).
Any thoughts?

LeTigreParticipantFinally found somewhere that alludes to the news:

Click on news and then look at the articles posted on the 12th Nov. You can’t read it without a really expensive subscription but at least it’s not just me and CAPA are a very reliable source.

FormerlyDoSParticipantI’m a bit concerned that CAPA thinks Billund is in Turkey.

AuldReekie39ParticipantIt is possible that BA may replicate the recent new route £777 introductory business fare to Seoul. However as ‘8’ is the Chinese lucky number it will probably be £888.
Do you have any news about if and when BA may fly to Fort Lauderdale?
Many thanks.

HippocampusParticipantUnsurprisingly, a lot of airports are now actively targeting BA for new long-haul and I expect there will be a few announcements next year once deals are finalised

sparkyflierParticipantFor Lauderdale has been suggested by anumber of people on this forum, especially on the thread below:-
I think a 3/4 x weekly 767 would do the trick, but maybe even 772 for all the cruise traffic as well as final destination trafffic, depending on any runway length limitations.

SwindonericParticipantEdski777 – I’m not sure if AMS is the best route any more. I wouldn’t choose a transfer at Schiphol over one at T5 if I am honest – especially on the way out when you don’t need to clear LHR security if you are transferring from UK domestic.

Edski777ParticipantThat may be true when you are living in the London area or down the M4, but certainly not if you have the convenience of a short hop to AMS in stead of a long and arduous trip to LHR.
LHR still has a long way to go to beat or even match AMS in terms of connections throughout the UK.29 Nov 2012

SwindonericParticipantEdski – each to their own. I have lived near Edinburgh for almost 20 years and during that period have taken connecting flights to LHR/AMS almost weekly, with the majority of these being to Amsterdam. For me the transfer experience at T5 is better. Others may disagree and I fully respect their opinions.

If you but a ticket to leave a UK airport and transit Amsterdam you still pay the same high APD rates than if you took a direct flight from UK (whether MAN or LHR or other airport). Only exception to this at the moment is Belfast. KLM are great from the regions but a transfer at T5 is easy (if an option). Admittedly if you have to switch or use the other terminals the experience isn’t so good.
Meant to add – be good to know when they officially announce this or other new routes.

sparkyflierParticipantIneed TimFitzgerald, all we have had so far is increased frequences from exisiting North American destinations, Monrovia as a tag to Freetown (exising route from BMI), Colombo as a tag to Maldives (thus providing inferior schedules for the return from Male) and at long last Seoul, announced a while ago, which I cannot believe they didnt already serve.
