davidchilver1ParticipantHaving just flown two transatlantic flights with BA on Club World (both very agreeable) I was struck by the high proportion of male cabin staff sporting beards of one sort or another. Is this a new trend? I recall the days when the BA policy was to be clean shaven and I can’t say that I welcome this new development, even when (as with the flights I took) the beards are tidy and neatly groomed.

AisleSeatTravellerParticipantHipster beards are everywhere (I believe its called fashion), not just amongst flight stewards

DoorsToManualParticipantThe new uniform policy states that a beard can be worn but stubble is not acceptable. Therefore the Cabin Crew member must grow the beard whilst not at work. There used to be an issue with the smoke hood being able to seal correctly but that rule/issue was changed. Also, if you look at many restaurants they now also allow staff to sport facial hair…damn you Brussels!! [Shakes fist in a comedic way.]

JeffDParticipantGosh, well done BA, almost positive feedback.
Great that the service was “agreeable” and you arrived safely, I do not think we can ask anymore really. If Cabin crew want to comply with current uniform policy which allows beards than good on them.I was recently on a domestic flight from Gatwick and one of stewards had more make up on than this female counterparts, now this a debate we could have. Should stewards wear make up ?
But its nice to see some semi positive feedback for BA.

AisleSeatTravellerParticipantbeards should be allowed on all members of staff (as should make-up)

Edski777ParticipantAre we running out of topics? Or will we start a topic of rating airlines by the way the FAs look? If this “beard matter” is the remaining issue airlines would have very little to worry about.
But I still believe there are more urgent matters at hand on board than someone’s fashion statement.24 Jul 2015

AisleSeatTravellerParticipantclearly the beard is the topic of the day, a light-hearted topic for a Friday

TravelcruiserParticipantWhat a ridiculous comment! You clearly don’t live in or work in a major european city or you would have seen beards everywhere for at least the last five years. I was in Lisbon a couple of weeks ago and Madrid last week and I can truthfully say that beards are even more in fashion there. Well done BA for actually moving with the times.

PeterCoultasParticipantDo the beard wearers have Victorian dress codes – or is it perhaps mass conversion to Islam to better compete with the ME3?

EU_FlyerParticipantI think it comes down to allowing crew (and all staff) to maintain some individuality so long as it’s professional and not unreasonably untidy.
I’ve had a beard for the last 10 years since I went bald. I’m a lawyer (a profession which frowns on facial hair generally – especially if you’re in a big city firm – which I am). Nevertheless – I wear my neatly groomed beard with pride and never once has anyone at work commented. It doesn’t effect my work and probably enhances what little I have in the looks department.
So bring on the beards BA. Hipsters beware though – those things scare the s*&^ out of me.
Have a great weekend!!
