Thailand to speed up immigration procedures at Suvarnabhumi Airport

The Immigration Bureau of Thailand is finalising a study that seeks to provide solutions to speed up the long immigration process at Suvarnabhumi Airport, particularly within the departure section.

The transport permanent secretary Supoj Saplom told local media that they have two weeks to propose ways of improving the present system. He added that hiring more immigration officers to man the counters would be one part of the solution.

The immigration facilities at the airport have recently been over flooded by a surge in passengers. Currently, 90,000 passengers pass through the airport per day, making Suvarbhumi the 16th busiest airport in the world in 2009 based on figures from Airports Council International.

90,000 passengers only? Doesn't seem right to me.

Thank you for pointing this out, toyotaboy95. We have amended this by including the key phrase 'per day', which had previously been left out.

If the 'powers-that-be' would only start doing something like this at Bali International Airport (DPS)...

It should be easy. Airlines know how many people they have booked on each flight (give or take) well in advance and therfore it should be a simple matter to estimate how many people will be using immigration each hour and staff accordingly.

This does suggest communication between airlines and the authorities but I am sure that airlines would like to see their customers in and out of imigration quickly.

I hope Heathrow will follow suit but do not hold out much hope - Last time I used the fast track at T4 I had to queue for 20+ minutes
