Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts has added a new member to its "urban resort" portfolio, with the recent opening of Banyan Tree Tianjin Riverside. Located along the east bank of the Hai River in the former Austrian concession, also near the Italian concession, the property has 159 rooms, all with "relaxation tubs", and a 92-square-metre spa, which features units for both single guests and couples.

The luxury chain is the latest of several brands that have entered this historic north China hub since the iconic Astor Hotel was restored in 2010. A port city, Tianjin has wisely positioned itself as a logistics player and attracted the likes of Airbus and electronics manufacturers to set up in its TEDA special zone (see Inside China: Tianjin)
Riverside Suite
Five food and beverage outlets offer a range of dining experiences: The Grill; Bai Yun for Cantonese and Tianjin favourites; River Cafe for casual dining; as well as places for drinks and small talk such as Jin's Bar and the Lobby Lounge. Most of the ingredients served at the restaurants are sourced from the hotel's "Happy Farm", which grows chemical-free and fertiliser-free produce such as tomatoes, eggplants and rosemary.
Spa bedroom
From now until June 30, a promotional rate of RMB1,100 (US$176) is offered for a "deluxe riverside retreat", including breakfast for two.
This Banyan Tree brings the group's Mainland inventory to 10.
