Singapore Airlines’ new low-cost subsidiary airline – which has yet to be named – will be utilising Boeing B777-200s to operate its commercial flights when launched.
Initially, the parent company will acquire the aircraft reconfigured for use by the no-frills subsidiary to operate on medium and long-haul routes (see story here).
Details of the new subsidiary such as branding, services and network will be unveiled in the coming months. The launch of this new subsidiary along with the recent unveiling of ANA’s Peach Aviation (see story here) and collaboration with AirAsia (see story here) reflects the recent game changing boom in the low-cost carrier market sector within Asia-Pacific (see story here). Fierce competition between players will benefit the traveller by driving down prices and opening up more routes.
