Newquay will welcome what is being referred to as “Cornwall’s first coastal aparthotel” later this year.
The Former Sands Resort Hotel and Spa was bought by the Watergate Bay hotel group in 2022, and is being transformed into an “oceanside open-house aparthotel” under the new name SeaSpace.
The property is located around five minutes’ walk from Porth beach on the eastern edge of Newquay, and is now taking reservations from October.
SeaSpace will feature 56 self catering units ranging from studios to two and three-bedroom apartments, offering fully equipped kitchens, a dining / work table and a lounge area.
Other facilities will include a cafe and deli in the lobby area, a restaurant and bar offering woodfired pizzas, a 24/7 self-service larder, a fitness centre, hot tub and a 19-metre swimming pool which has been reimagined in 1920s Miami style.
The property is also partnering with UK Padel to open a five court padel tennis club within the grounds, two of which will be under retractable roofs to allow for year-round play.
SeaSpace also plans to offer a calendar of events including live music, pop-ups, art expos, and BBQs, and the property also has a an outdoor maze and garden areas for children.
Commenting on the news SeaSpace CEO Ben Harper, said:
“SeaSpace will be stepping into new territory, moving away from the conventional hotel and self-catering accommodation models to put freedom and community first – without compromising on quality.
“We’re enjoying breathing new life into the space, and look forward to creating a place where everyone feels like they belong.”
