LondonianParticipantJust to let anybody know who is travelling to Germany on Wednesday this week there will be a strike of key workers at 6 airports. German airports—including Frankfurt/Main, Munich, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Dortmund and Hannover—will be affected by German public services trade union Verdi strike on Wednesday, April 27. Expect cancellations.

MartynSinclairParticipantDoes this also involve ground staff (security etc) or Swiss flights with LH flight numbers…??

Industrial action in Germany – Wednesday 27 April
Updated 25/04/2016 04.02 PM (UK time)
Summary
A number of public sector trade unions in Germany are threatening to hold industrial action which is likely to affect a number of airports on Wednesday 27 April.
At this stage British Airways is planning to operate a full schedule of flights to/from Germany, but please allow extra time to make your way through the check-in areas and security checks.25 Apr 2016

LetsFlyNowParticipantMUC is worst hit. Not a single intercontinental flight will take to air. Only around 90 domestic/short haul european flights will operate.
Most of the international flights from Frankfurt will operate, less domestic flights. As from 3pm ‘normal’ flight operations from FRA should resume.

LuganoPirateParticipantI can’t imagine it would affect Swiss flights Martyn as they originate in Zurich, and there’s no strike there (that I know of anyway). Swiss does codeshare with LH but if it’s an LX operated flight it will fly, with the exception I imagine to those airports in Germany affected!

MartynSinclairParticipant@LP – many thanks for your response which was very reassuring until the line:
” LX operated flight it will fly, with the exception I imagine to those airports in Germany affected!”

AMcWhirterParticipantLatest update is that six German airports will be affected by this strike. They are: Frankfurt, Munich, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Dortmund and Hanover.
Lufthansa is cancelling a total of 895 flights. This is expected to affect 87,000 passengers.
Lufthansa passengers booked on domestic (internal German flights) are being allowed to use DB trains to reach their destination. Or they can rebook flights at no extra cost – even if their particular flight is not affected by the strike.
The strike is set to run until 15.00hrs local time on Wednesday.

AnthonyDunnParticipantCan anyone remind me whether or not LH has finally settled its long-standing industrial relations issue concerning wage/salary (and pensions?) cuts as part of the longer-term survival strategy?

AMcWhirterParticipantAnthony – No. The dispute is not yet settled. LH pilots could still strike again but I must stress that nothing is finalised yet.
There was a recent piece in Spiegel [DE].

MrMichaelParticipantYour right FDOS, I have been quietly (as Stena Line used to in Poland with the shipyards) been whipping up trouble and strife amongst the flag carrier staff of France and Germany so that BA can clean up and I can get a slightly enhanced divvy and treat myself to the latest Tassimo machine.
Cheers 🙂
