Gin&TonicParticipantLeaving Lhr yesterday evening (Thursday) we had the usual delays on push back because of congestion on the taxi ways and runway holding points. Now we are all used to delays at Lhr due weather, low cloud poor visibility, reduced landing and take-off patterns. However yesterday our captain informed us on stand the reason for our 45 minute delay on a flight with 35 minute flight time was due to the “good weather” all over the UK and Europe. This had meant there had been no prior delays to the days schedules, everyone was on time and was ready to leave on time. Unfortunately that meant the system could not cope with the number of scheduled departures.

canuckladParticipantBrilliant G & T…..
My “best ever” delay at LHR was a couple of winters ago….
BA had cancelled their domestic flights and BD were doing the very best, as usual to get us all home…..
On board, and just about on time, doors shut and just the de-icing to go….Truck appears on starboard side and …………..
Nothing happens……………A few minutes later, with sheer frustration in his voice the captain announces…“ Ehmmm folks, Those of you on the right hand side of the aircraft will notice that the de-icer lorry isn’t doing anything….apparently ..DUE to the freezing temperatures it’s broken down” ….We have got another one on its way, but that will be in about 45 minutes!! “
I just burst out laughing, much to the confusion of my neighbours!!

ImissConcordeParticipantGood weather can often mean clear air turbulence!
Not a very nice experience.
One of my worst experiences was on a Dublin – LHR flight. Not a cloud in the sky and the aircraft was all over the place.25 Jul 2014

MartynSinclairParticipanthad a 90 minute delay on Wednesday evening to Nice. 20 minutes late due to 2 passengers failing to turn up but 90 minutes to t/o. Pilot said absolutely nothing until in the decent at Nice when he announced “technical isses”..
No apology – even the Purser thought the service by the flight deck was poor…
The weather in London was far better than Nice !!

AnthonyDunnParticipantAnd an hour and forty minutes delay ex-PEK with loads of other aircraft scooting past us. An increasingly irked flight deck apologising for “unexplained delays down the line and closer to HKG…” It subsequently transpires that the PLA have unannounced live missile firing exercises taking place all over China. After recent events we were entirely happy to be late but in one piece.

MrMichaelParticipantStuck on the ground at Aalborg on a SAS flight to Copenhagen, the captain announced a technical issue that would be quickly fixed once the part arrived on the next flight in from Copenhagen. About twenty minutes later he announced a further unforeseen problem, he was the next flight from Copenhagen!
Around 90 minutes later another DC9 turned up and we were away within ten minutes.

HedgeFundFlyerParticipantIt reminds me of the hot weather several years back which caused railway lines to overheat and expand. Network Rail became concerned that if a train stopped for too long at a station the rails underneath it would have too much shade, shrink back to normal and then detach from those rails still exposed to the sunlight. As a result of this, trains on London Overground were told not to call at stations. Bemused passengers used to excuses like “leaves on the line” and the “wrong type of snow” now had to contend with a new one: “it’s too hot to stop”.
