DanielRawsonParticipantWould anybody be able to advise me if it will be possible to change a booking I have for 3 seats to Houston from London using Avios and an Amex Companion voucher to another destination or am I stuck with this destination?
Many thanks

first_class_pleaseParticipantEither cancel online no start again, or call your Executive Club account line.
Both can change, not sure on the current fees, depends on your membership level.

MartynSinclairParticipantSince the changes to BAEC T& C’s, cancelling avios flights is now not as easy or as quick as it used to be due to charges levied. A couple of useful points:
1. Not sure if this is specific to Gold membership, but all bookings made on line can be changed within 24 hours of booking with no charge.
2. All BA ticket offices and desks, irrelevant of country of BAEC membership, are now able to cancel or change avios ticket. It used to be that you were sent to the BAEC country office, where membership was based.
3. Previously where refunds (avios/charges) were instant, now it can take up to 6 weeks.
Hope this additional info helps..

Papillion53ParticipantAs MS said above except for 3.
I recently changed and cancelled avios flights and the avios were re-credited instantly to our account. In fact I did this online to cancel a BA flight and by phone to cancel a CX flight (for some reasons I couldn’t do this online) and both times, the avios were re-credited when I logged back into the BAEC account.
The fees and taxes were re-credited to the card we used for payment quickly too – couple of days, no more. In fact I’m going to go check the statement to give you a more accurate account.
When I changed our avios flights I was able to phone You First as we were travelling in F and they cancelled, rebooked, refunded the original taxes/fees, advised and charged for the new taxes/fees due. But I’ve also phoned the silver BAEC line to do this in the past and they’ve been as helpful.
Back in a mo!
Btw, I’m happily not crying in my porridge this morning! 😉 :-)))

Papillion53ParticipantDaniel – I checked and the avios flights I cancelled went as follows:
From day cancelled, charges (taxes and fees minus the change/cancellation fees) refunded to credit card 4 days later.
Avios and Amex 241 recredited instantly – (well I had to log out and back in a agin for it to update).
For information, I re-booked using the Amex 241 which expired on the very day we fly out to HKG. I thought I would mention this as it is only the outbound travel that must be booked prior to or on the date of expiry of these vouchers – the inbound can be taken after the expiry date.
So this might help those who feel they may not be able to use their vouchers as they perhaps thought that all travel had to be competed by the expiry date.

DanielRawsonParticipantThank you very much for all your help. I was concerned about losing the Amex 2for1 so can happily rebook this weekend. Does anyone happen to know how I find out which flight the BA A380 does to New York?

Papillion53ParticipantDaniel – if you go to this link on BA.com – timetables, you will see little blue aircraft icons, click on them and it will give you all the flight details and the aircraft type. (Put in the route you want first of course to take you to the timetable)

mkcol74ParticipantDidn’t think BA flew the A380 to NYC.

Papillion53ParticipantDanielRawson – did you get your flights re-booked?
I had to change a BA avios booking the other day and on MMB it gave me the option to change date/time of our flights as well as the option to cancel. Saves so much time doing it online rather than having to call up. I was within the 24 hour “cooling off” period, so no charges. Lovely! 🙂

DanielRawsonParticipantHi P,
Yes I did with absolutely no problem at all. I’ve not checked if the money was refunded yet or not but i’m sure it will be. I has flights booked to Houston to then fly on to LAX however my wife decided the holiday in LA wouldn’t be great for my 4 year old so its going to be Orlando via 3 nights in NYC. Flying first both ways so that should be great!

MartynSinclairParticipantSurprised today when I cancelled an avios booking FRA-TXL-FRA (Air Berlin) within 24 hours of departure and received a full refund… was not expecting that at all…

Str8TalkingParticipantBack to Martyn’s first comment, points 2 and 3 are actually linked. If you cancel via the same ticket office that you booked with, or in the case of online bookings the office in the country where your BAEC account is registered, refunds are processed straight away. If however you cancel/change through a completely different office, it tends to take a while longer. I expect there will be less and less of this as more and more of the regional offices are centralised.
