This is being reported in a very strange manner.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-32378682

When I googled the topic just now, there are quite a few news paper articles both from HKG and UK. All of the reports have been written in the same way with the same data.

This is a news worthy article, but there is no real information….

I guess the question not being answered is….why was he carrying them?

    Ahhhh… the knives are out.

Have you tried carving Peking Duck with an airline knife? Impossible.

The poor chap was probably harangued by his wife to bring back some proper quality Sheffield Steel kitchen knives for her refurbished kitchen. More than likely, those stylish magnetic types she’s seen advertised on the Harrods website !!. .

I tend to agree with Canucklad. I remember an article where some poor kid who’d just got a job at a top restaurant in London, had been given a set of kitchen knives by a well meaning relative. He had them in their pouch on the car seat and was stopped for a routine control. He was arrested and I never saw the outcome.

While knife crime is terrible in the UK, I think plod overdoes it in arresting people who carry knives for totally innocent purposes.

It is strange why a pilot was carrying knives, and was it in his luggage that was going the cargo area. I’m sure (as cancucklad says) he just wants a good set of knives for his kitchen.

Don’t know if i will get into trouble by confessing on hear, but I work in the meat industry and to get proper butcher’s knives in HKG is hard. I recently took back with me a good set of proper butchers knives bought from the UK.

There doesn’t seem to any further developments regarding this story. It’s all a bit cloak and, ahem, dagger…. !

Why assume he is resident in Hong Kong? I know three CX pilots who are resident in the UK and only fly the LHR – HKG route. Given that he is 61, there is a fair chance, I would have thought, that he is an expat rather than local Hong Konger. I guess time will tell.
