Bed bugs at BA and other airlines

peter19ParticipantIts a bit of a thought this one really and in the recent article with BA all the facts are not available at the moment to suggest that BA should have been quicker to react although it suggests a missed opportunity. However, going by the BT article just published there are sprays out there you can purchase to give places a ‘once over’. I often use the hot towel provided to wipe things down where i see bits i don’t like. This shouldn’t be the case but i do like a clean space whether it be in a hotel or aircraft!

MarcusGBParticipantNot so much dirty climates, but cluttered ones. Pigeons are also known to carry these bugs, so they can be transferred this way also. They like warm environments so hot climate countries also, but most easily through hotels when you consider the amount of people who use one hotel bed in a year! Same with an Airline seat…and think of the headrest covers also, how many people put their head against that on low cost airlines each week!
This is where i prefer to use very good hotel chains, where they have Policies on such matters and procedures. You may pay more, but you have many benefits from a good clean, even basic hotel. Same with my chosen Airlines.
British Airways had this problem several years ago, as we had discussions on here about it? Seems more viable on a BA Aircraft compared to others. New Aircraft help with less clutter, and leather seating, or more modern seating from composites, rather than other old fashioned covers and padding.

stevescootsParticipantmost places can get them, however its not beyond the wit of the cleaning department to spray the seats at cleaning to kill off the hatched ones then do a deep clean 24-48 hours later to get the ones that have hatched since

TominScotlandParticipantNo worries, LP. If you check the postings on Flyertalk etc., you will see that bed bugs are commonplace across the industry. I would not be surprised if even Turkish Airlines, so beloved of the OP, have had their instances of bed bugs although they may have kept coverage out of the media!!
BA makes for a far better story, that is all.

I agree that bed bug infestations happen in many places (including some 5 star hotels) and so I wouldn’t link this to cleaning on BA.
On the other hand, I have been on some pretty dirty BA planes in recent years, including one with dried mucous on the seat I had to sit on for 7 hours – yuk. I do not find dirty aircraft acceptable.
