Tried and tested: Thule Gauntlet MacBook Pro 15” Attaché case

29 Nov 2011 by ScottCarey7
Available in two sizes, these attachés are made to carry both the 13-inch and 15-inch version of Apple’s MacBook Pro. The case is split into two sections with a bright blue hard divider in the centre. The divider has a large, softly upholstered pocket on the laptop side to carry an iPad or important documents and on the other side three elastic pockets which snugly and securely hold an iPhone, my laptop charger and other accessories like a mouse or notepad. I own a basic MacBook, not a 15-inch MacBook Pro so the laptop wasn’t particularly snug but felt perfectly secure. The MacBook section comes with an elastic strap to hold it in place. The case is also clamshell designed so that the laptop can still be used while inside. The other section has a blue mesh divider and can be used for holding the charger, documents and other incidentals including a small book. Anything larger than a 300 page paperback will make the case bulge and become difficult to close. The case is semi-rigid and feels tough and durable and has a water resistant zip. It comes in one colour, a dark grey, which gives off the impression of high durability but may not be to every traveller’s taste in terms of aesthetics. Also due to the ridge of the zip and rounded shape of the case it does not stand upright, which can be annoying when waiting in line or on board public transport as you must either stow it or keep it upright between your legs. There are two small handles for carrying briefcase style, and a longer, over the shoulder strap that can be attached to two small plastic clips located on either side of the zip, which does mean it can get in the way when you want to access the case. The bag has two bright blue plastic zips which have loops big enough to fit a padlock through. The zips can be a bit tough but this may because the case was new or for the sake of greater durability and water resistance. DIMENSIONS Height: 10.04in, Width: 3.15in, Length: 13.82in, Weight: 1.87lb. PROS Lightweight yet sturdy and secure. CONS Lack of capacity and failure to stay upright.
