Tried and Tested: Qdos Sound Frame

18 Jan 2011 by AndrewGough

Designed for the iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod Touch, the Sound Frame was launched by Qdos in June and makes a handy companion for anyone who likes being able to listen to iTunes when travelling – particularly since iPod docks are yet to become standard in every hotel room.

It is a well though-out product that allows your iPhone or iTouch to slot neatly into the 15.5cm x 15.5cm x 3.8cm block-shaped speaker. It also has a stand on the back so it can be positioned on a table table or shelf and angled in the direction you want it, and comes with a black nylon travel zip pouch with pockets for cables and plugs, and the dinky remote control that is provided.

If you receive a phone call the Sound Dock will automatically pause the music or film that is being played, and as well as synching with iTunes, it also acts as a charger, and can be turned on its side to allow you to watch movies in “widescreen” format.

The 2.1-watt hi-fi speakers are small so sound quality is not great – you don’t get much in terms of bass or volume and music generally sounds tinny. But if you are not an audiophile and simply want to hear a few tunes in your hotel room this will do the job.

PROS Compact design with a handy case perfect for travelling.

CONS
Music sounds quite tinny, not compatible with iPhone 4.
