As most iPhone users know, batteries can be used up quickly when using numerous applications and when on 3G. Many business travellers carry an extra power supply but the Juice Pack offers a sensible all-in-one alternative to a battery pack and case.
The rubberised cover has a metal band around the edge similar to that on the phone itself and is relatively stylish, light, thin and provides good protection. In terms of size it adds less than 1cm to the phone’s depth, about 1.5cm to the length and about 0.7cm to the width. But I did not realise how much bigger this made it until I placed it next to a friend’s who had a normal case.
The iPhone fits securely into the Juice Pack and comes with a USB lead for charging. It also connects the iPhone to iTunes so there is no need to remove the phone from the case. The pack comes with four LED lights to test how much power it has and a switch on the side that either tops up the phone or gives it extended life.
The Juice Pack claims to give an extra six hours on 3G, 36 hours of audio and nine hours of video playback. It also claims that it as a virtual speaker box giving better sound quality although, I have to say, I did not think it made a difference.
The only annoying element I found was that if I carried it in my trouser pocket when charging the terminal between the pack and the phone would keep losing connection resulting an irritating beep or vibration.
PROS A convenient way to avoid running out of battery – perfect for travelling and avoiding having to carry a charger.
CONS Makes the phone feel a bit too big.
