Tried and Tested: G Drive Mobile USB 3.0

21 Nov 2013 by Jenny Southan

In relation to the history of hardware, Moore’s Law states that computers double in power every two years, or halve in price or size. G Technology’s G Drive Mobile USB is a great example – packing 1TB (1,024GB) of storage into a slender 12.9cm x 8.2cm x 1.3cm unit weighing just 163g.

Designed to be Mac-compatible both inside and out (the aluminium finish matches the Macbook Pro and Air perfectly), it transfers data at a rate of up to 100MB per second, and its small proportions make it ideal for travelling.

The G Drive is incredibly easy to set up, just plug it into your computer with the supplied USB cable and it immediately pops up on your desktop. You can then drag movies, photos, music, documents and any other files straight on to it, or use Time Machine to automatically back up. It is also charged with the same cable so you don’t need to plug it into a wall.

PROS Small, light and pleasing Apple-style aluminium finish. Perfect for travelling.

CONS Apple and Windows compatible only.

PRICE US$130
