This is Shangri-La chain’s chinese signature restaurant. Over the years, the brand has earned the reputation of serving authentic Cantonese cuisine of fine quality. Last year at Time Out Abu Dhabi Awards, it won the title for Highly Commended for Best Chinese.

As soon as I was seated, my friendly host recommended two types of Mojito. One was classic and the other prepared with sake — both of which would accompany me through the night. I first opted for the classic Mojito that arrived while I studied the menu. For the appetisers I chose fish cakes, a dish known to be part of traditional Chinese cuisine since centuries. And true to its reputation, Shang Palace got this right to the last ingredient. The taste of the fish wasn’t overpowering in the least bit, nor did the sauces overpower the fish. For my second and last drink of the night I chose the sake Mojito — a slightly bitter preparation that paired well with my black cod. This too wasn’t heavily coated in sauces. It was light and fluffy and easily melted in the mouth. A two-course light meal was enough to satiate my appetite, and soul for the evening. I skipped the dessert and chose a cappuccino instead before calling it a night.

VERDICT A delectable menu served within a pleasant ambience, suitable to host a business dinner.
