The world-famous bar Please Don’t Tell (PDT) in New York needs no introduction. Following a successful pop-up at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental a while ago, the Hong Kong outpost of PDT is a chic, speakeasy-style cocktail bar. You enter the bar through a mock phone booth (lift the phone and dial zero and an invisible door is opened up to you to reveal the bar inside. Once inside, I had a hearty chat with the stylish bartender who revealed that the cocktail list features some of the old favourites from the New York outlet, with new additions to the Hong Kong menu. As you would expect, try out the innovative cocktails developed by award-winning mixologists Jim Meehan and Jeff Bell. I tried the Bad Hunter, a heady concoction of Chivas Regal 12 whisky, Fernet Hunter, lemon, longan berries and topped up with champagne.

Verdict: Our pick for the best place in Hong Kong for a late-night cocktail.
