Jet Airways (Konnect) ATR72 Economy

28 Feb 2011 by AndrewGough

BACKGROUND On domestic services, flyers may find a choice between Jet Airways, Jet Konnect and JetLite. Jet Airways Konnect is Jet Airways’ budget brand, designed to provide “value service on key domestic routes”. Jet Konnect links Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kolkata with destinations across India. Jet Airways, Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite have a combined fleet strength of 109 aircraft and operate over 500 flights daily.

We were flying in an ATR72 which was all economy, but for background purposes, since 2010 Jet Konnect has also offered on its B737 flights a premium cabin service – Konnect Select – with wider and more comfortable seats similar to Jet Airways Première (Business Class) seats. These seats come with a 40-inch seat pitch in a front cabin with a 2-2 configuration, complimentary in-flight reading material, a welcome drink and complimentary hot meals on board. At present Jet offers one third of its domestic flights as Konnect, and Konnect Select means it does not have to reconfigure the aircraft when converting a route between the full service Jet Airways and Konnect. For those flying at the front of a Konnect service, there is lounge access, priority check-in at dedicated counters, priority baggage tagging and baggage allowances as well as a mileage accrual structure as per the existing domestic accrual levels for various booking classes, redemption requirements similar to the current requirement for Jet Airways business class, excess baggage allowance similar to current tier-based benefits for domestic routes, and the acceptance of upgrade vouchers as per the current policy.

ARRIVAL Our 0805 departure 9W2604 was from Udaipur airport to Delhi International Terminal 3. We had booked a hotel car and on the way along the dual carriageway road out to the airport, which is 25km from Udaipur, our driver told us the airport was about three years old. There were only two flights departing this early, both Jet Airways return flights for both Mumbai and Delhi. By the time we had cleared security both flights had landed, both using ATR72 aircraft. We were bussed out the short distance to the aircraft and departed on time.

THE SEAT Other than perhaps the front row there is nothing to choose between the seats. Obviously with this being a propeller plane, over-wing exits are not used so there is no row. For a seat plan, click here.

Meals are available: sandwiches, brownies and hot and cold beverages including tea, coffee, aerated drinks and fruit juices. The JetCafé menu card can be found here.

THE FLIGHT The flight passed without incident, though the pilot told us that there were reports of flights being diverted because of heavy fog at Delhi. In the event we had only a ten-minute delay before landing, but we then had to wait a further ten minutes for  a bus to pick us up.

VERDICT Another excellent flight with Jet Airways – good service, and although food had to be purchased, the breakfast sandwich was fine and not over priced.

PRICE A mid-week return from Jetairways.com starts at £121.33.
