Background

During a recent business trip to Osaka, I spent two nights at this massive business-cum-leisure hotel at the heart of the city. The hotel has enjoyed a massive refurbishment and its new look is impressive.

What’s It Like

The first thing that strikes me about this hotel is just how massive it is, spread across 35 storeys, featuring a multitude of lounges, facilities and F&B outlets. The ambience within the hotel reflects the urban energy of Osaka, given that it is at the heart of the city. The decor is modern and soothing, with gentle colours and artistic highlights that dot the space. During the course of my stay, I was very impressed by the impeccable service standards and the sheer diversity of amenities for both business and leisure travellers.

Where Is It

It is in the centre of the business, shopping and entertainment district of Umeda. The JR Osaka station is a two-minute walk away, JR Shin-Osaka station ten minute drive away and Osaka International Airport is a 25-minute drive away.

Rooms

This massive hotel, one of the city’s biggest, features 562 rooms and suites across different categories. Each room is designed in the contemporary style, while maintaining little touches of Japanese hotel culture. I particularly liked the little touches like the Japanese yukata pyjamas and slippers for added comfort. In addition, my room was comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep in the plush double bed. Other perks in my room included a massive bathroom, a generous work desk, a mini bar, tea and coffee facilities and high-speed Internet. The rooms offer sweeping views of downtown Osaka. My room, on the executive floor, also gave me access to the private lounge.

Food & Drinks

The hotel has four restaurants, offering different cuisines. I had my breakfast at the all-day dining outlet, Folk Kitchen, which offered a variety of international cuisines. Perfect for a hearty breakfast before a day at work. You can also enjoy some Japanese teppanyaki at Tenka, which offers an interactive experience. I enjoyed a lovely wine-paired dinner at the Western restaurant Centrum Grill & Wine.

Meetings and Banquet Facilities

The hotel’s Sakura Ballroom can accommodate up to 1,000 persons and can be configured. There are twelve event rooms, which can be customised, depending on the event.

Leisure

The hotel comes with a fully-equipped gym as well as a massage centre. You can enjoy the sauna and jet bath as well.

Verdict: A great hotel in downtown Osaka, perfect for business and leisure travellers.

Price: Upwards of INR 15,000.
