Tried & Tested

Hotel check: The Clinton, Miami

1 Mar 2005 by business traveller

What's it like: Quirky hotel with largely white and lilac colour scheme and a stylish courtyard with a pool that's more of a water feature – great for sunbathing in the day and posing with a cocktail at night. Perks includefree entry to some local nightclubs. The lobby is impressive with designer furniture and comfortable booths for enjoying breakfast and cocktails.

Where is it: On Washington Avenue - the heart of South Beach's shopping and nightlife district and about 25 minutes from the airport.

How many rooms: 88, of which ten areLoft King Suites.

Room facilities:All rooms have CD player, safe, television with pay movies, internet access, bathrobes and slippers, luxury bed linen and minibar. The Loft King Suites have balconies with an outdoor hot tub. It's worth mentioning that the corridors are scented with a sweet and subtle perfume reminiscent of Parma Violet sweets - sounds horrible but I rather liked it.

Business centre: No - but there two computers in the lobby with free internet access.

Restaurants: Aïgo, a sophisticated Mediterranean-themed restaurant overlooking the pool, open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and takeaways. According to the hotel, the use of fresh Mediterranean ingredients such as herbs, olive oil, and garlic means the food is so light, it's slimming! Signature dishes include L'Aïgo Boulido, a garlic soup from Provence, and Tuna Biscayenne with fava beans and green olives.

Leisure facilities: Small fitness centre and pool, plus spa treatments arranged with the Panico Salon and Spa across the road - essential for getting the South Beach "preened and lean" look.

Price: Weekday rates start at $161 and Loft King Suites at $319 plus tax.
