WHAT’S IT LIKE? Launched in 2002, the five-star hotel is constantly improving its facilities and services to better cater to both business and leisure guests. Its conference and banquet floor was revamped last year, as were all 44 Premier Executive Rooms and six Executive Suites. By the end of 2008, the remaining guestrooms will have benefited from a soft refurbishing. Ten out of a total of 29 guest floors are non-smoking. The hotel also has in place a comprehensive security system with CCTV cameras, phones on every guest floor for use in-house, and fire-proof partitions on guest floors and at lift lobbies.
WHERE IS IT? A 40-minute drive from the international airport, the hotel is in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s business district and the Golden Triangle, the commercial, shopping and entertainment hub. Once out of the hotel, guests immediately feel the urban buzz with a number of attractions within walking distance: the Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Prince Court Medical Centre and Pavilion mall, to name a few. Nightlife options are numerous with the nearby Bintang Walk.
HOW MANY ROOMS? 448 rooms ranging from 35sqm to 240sqm, in seven categories. Extended-stay guests can choose from 160 furnished serviced apartments, with access to a separate hotel lobby, the Residence Lounge and a laundrette.
ROOM FACILITIES: A palette of beige, brown and green creates a calming ambience. Guests who appreciate a view of the Twin Towers can opt for “11”-ending numbered rooms. Those staying on Premier Executive floors and higher room categories have access to the Premier Executive Lounge and other privileges such as a pillow menu, unlimited local calls, three pieces of laundry or dry cleaning per person per day and one-hour use of the business centre boardroom per stay. All rooms have broadband internet connection (at RM50/US$15 daily) and multi-feature phones.
RESTAURANTS: Eccucino for all-day dining features international dishes; Tai Zi Heen offers Chinese lunch and dinner; and ENJU (formerly Taishojin) is open from midday for Japanese cuisine.
BARS: The Terrace Poolside Bar & Grill on the 10th floor boasts a garden setting and allows guests to soak in the sun while admiring Kuala Lumpur’s panoramic skyline. Indoor options include Fidel’s Cigar Room and Mezzanine. The latter overlooks the main lobby and is suitable for informal business meetings, complete with live jazz from Monday to Saturday evenings and live sports programmes aired daily from two large screen projectors.
BUSINESS FACILITIES: Conference and meetings are served on a dedicated 1,500-square-metre floor. The Grand Prince Ballroom can accommodate up to 800 people and is pillar-free and spacious with high ceilings. There are also nine multi-use function rooms – some of them are day-lit with huge glass windows looking out to the street below – a foyer and a VIP waiting room, as well as Wi-Fi, audio-visual equipment and a trained staff to see things run smoothly. Alternatively, the Premier Executive Lounge for selected guests is great for small group discussions. Office tasks can be fulfilled at the business centre and the hotel’s public areas are Wi-Fi enabled.
LEISURE FACILITIES: A fitness centre offering lush garden views through floor-to-ceiling glass windows, inspiring guests while they work out on the exercise bikes, an outdoor pool with a bar, kids’ club and the Mandara Spa for traditional Asian treatments. Retail therapy is provided by nearby malls.
PRICE: The Best Available Rate on the internet for a Deluxe Room starts from RM330 (US$100) nightly on weekdays in late September.
VERDICT: Luxury all around thanks to the staff’s genuine hospitality, and a prime address adds up to a satisfying experience.
