What it's like? Launched last year, the Park Hyatt Beijing is one of the capital’s most stylish new entrants to its crowded hotel scene.

Where is it? Located on the higher levels of the Beijing Yintai Centre (levels 37 to 49) in the Chaoyang business and diplomatic district, about 15 minutes by car from Tiananmen Square along Chang’an Avenue. Beneath the hotel are 216 Park Hyatt Residences (levels seven to 33) and 21 Park Hyatt Penthouses (levels 50 to 58).

Park Hyatt\\\\\\\\\\'s Presidential SuiteHow many rooms? There are 237 guestrooms including 18 suites. Room sizes vary from a 45sqm Park King Room to the 240sqm Chairman Suite.

Room facilities All rooms have wired and wireless broadband internet, workstations equipped with international sockets for laptops and other electronic appliances, dual-line phones, flat-screen TVs and DVD players. Bathrooms have a spa influence with rain shower, deep bathtub and heated floor, and hairdryers as well. Aside from the minibar, there is also an Expresso machine for making your own coffee in room. The safety deposit box has a built-in laptop charger.

F&B The China Grill on level 66 claims to be the highest restaurant in the city. It features Western grill-style dishes, regional Chinese seafood, Japanese sushi and, almost as importantly as the cuisine, a panoramic view of Beijing. The Private Room on level five specialises in Cantonese cuisine. The China Bar on level 65 serves wines, champagnes and cocktails, along with live music, while on level 63, the Lounge offers an all-day venue for simple Asian and Western dining.

Xiu\\\\\\\\\\'s Executive LoungeOne of the most exciting new venue complexes in Beijing is Xiu on the rooftop of level six. This has three bars, wine cellars, live entertainment as well as outdoor terraces. Taking traditional Chinese architecture as its inspiration, specifically the Song dynasty, Xiu combines elements of the hutong (alley) courtyard-style layout with contemporary design and functionality.

Business facilities The hotel has a fully equipped business centre and substantial meeting space. On level three is the main ballroom, which can hold 750 people for a banquet. On level 61 is the Salon portfolio of function rooms that can cater for a theatre-style setting of up to 130, depending on the configuration. Finally on level 62, there are numerous permutations for boardroom meetings, catering for eight to 14 people.

Leisure facilities On levels 59 and 60 is the Tian Spa, which has a number of specialised treatments including tui na, meaning in English “push and grasp”, a traditional Chinese method for bringing the body into balance. There is also the Park Life Fitness on level six. Both the Tian Spa and Park Life Fitness facilities offer a 25m indoor lap pool, and the latest exercise equipment. Manicure and pedicure treatments are also available in the salon.

Price Internet rates for a Park King Room in mid-October start at CNY1,600 (US$234) with a seven-day or more purchase.

Verdict Cutting-edge design, breathtaking views and imaginative use of space make this property a visual and aesthetic treat. Hyatt’s reputation for quality food and beverage is well promoted here too. Spacious bathroom and storage space, combined with a functional workstation, make the guestrooms very desirable indeed from the business travellers’ perspective. A worthy addition to the burgeoning Beijing hotel scene.
