Hotel Check: Pan Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport Hotel

28 Feb 2010

WHAT’S IT LIKE? Enjoying a short overnight stopover, I made my way from the immigration counter to the Pan Pacific desk. It was manned but there was a couple immediately in front of me trying to make a last-minute booking. The counter clerk acknowledged me and as I already had a reservation, he advised me to go ahead and pointed me in the direction of the buggy pick-up point. The staff at the hotel lobby were very welcoming. Staff checked my reservation and escorted me to the lift to the Pacific Club for check-in.

WHERE IS IT? The route is well signposted inside the airport. Follow the directions at Arrivals on level three and then take the escalator to level two. Here you will find the hotel buggy station. A friendly driver helped me with my bags and I hopped onboard. It’s only a few minutes’ journey to the hotel reception. The chatty drivers make you quite at home before you’ve even set foot in the property.

ROOM FACILITIES The 66sqm Superior King Suite has a bedroom, bathroom and separate living room. There is broadband in the room itself. The bathroom has separate shower and bathtub. There is even an electronic foot massager for the weary traveller as well as the more expected tea and coffee-making facilities, iron and ironing board. Pacific Club benefits include buffet breakfast, pre-dinner cocktails at the lounge for two people and check out at 3pm, subject to availability. Wireless internet is also available at the Pacific Club lounge.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS Degrees is a 24-hour international restaurant with an open kitchen concept. Here, the food is cooked à la minute. The Travellers Bar & Grill is a British-style pub, with snooker and darts and the obligatory Asian addition, the karaoke room, as well as a wide selection of wine, beer and spirits and pub food.

There is a Pool Terrace Café and the Palmz Lounge. The latter offers a selection of coffees, teas and smoothies. It has Wi-Fi internet, a TV area and very helpfully, flight information from the airport.

BUSINESS AND MEETING FACILITIES The 24-hour business centre has two private meeting rooms, Wi-Fi and broadband connections and secretarial support. There is also a ballroom that can hold 800 people for banquets.

LEISURE FACILITIES There is an outdoor pool, outdoor tennis court, a 24-hour health and fitness centre equipped with a sauna, steam room and a Jacuzzi and a beauty salon.

HOW MANY ROOMS? 441 rooms and suites

ROOM HIGHLIGHTS Broadband and workspace, bathtub and shower as well as a relaxing foot massager.

VERDICT I was impressed by the friendliness of staff from the buggy drivers to check in and check out. A positive staff attitude is always a good sign. The room was sizeable with good facilities and amenities. This is definitely the hotel to use if you are in transit or have an early flight at KLIA.

PRICE A one-night stay in a Superior King Suite in March was available online for MYR857 (US$251).
