Hotel Check: Hotel LKF by Rhombus

1 Dec 2006 by intern22

WHAT’S IT LIKE? Contemporary lobby with rich dark tones project a stylish ambience that’s in keeping with one of Hongkong’s hippest neighbourhoods. I received a warm welcome from the staff.

WHERE IS IT? Perched above Hongkong’s famed chill-out precinct and designed so that the buzz never intrudes. It is a few minutes’ walk to the Central MTR station.

HOW MANY ROOMS? 95 guestrooms and suites occupying the 12th to 28th floors. These range from 46sq m to 87.4sq m in size.

ROOM FACILITIES: Most amenities in my Deluxe Room were generous in their proportions: the king-size bed, the 42-inch flat-screen TV and the large picture windows. All rooms feature an espresso coffee machine from Italy, a treat I made full use of. Other standards include minibar, broadband internet connection, in-room safe, flat-screen TV which swivels so you can position it to face the bed, DVD player and hairdryer. The desk boasts a leather surface; the chair is a Herman Miller. The sofa by the window invites quiet time for reflection or just catching up on one’s reading. On the walls are specially commissioned photographs by well-known “eyes” like Wing Sha and Patrick Lee. The “Care” button on the telephone puts guests in touch with a staff member. Perks include daily breakfast and pressing of one set of clothing, although it’s best to enquire upon check in which is included in the rate you’re paying.

RESTAURANTS: Azure is both a restaurant on the 30th floor and a bar on the 29th with the requisite spectacular views. For now, it’s only open to hotel guests. Tenant establishments on the lower levels include Balalaika for Russian, Finds for Northern European, Kabuki Lounge for Japanese and illy for coffee and dessert.

BARS: Azure as mentioned; Balalaika which boasts an ice cellar and provides overcoats; The Cavern which pulsates nightly with a live band; and the Hongkong Brew House that has an outdoor terrace and serves specially imported beer from Belgium.

BUSINESS FACILITIES: A 24/7 business centre.

LEISURE FACILITIES: The Yoga Plus studio is on the sixth floor, and Le Salon on the ninth.

VERDICT: You’d never know it was rocking and rolling down below once you’re ensconced in your guestroom.

PRICE: From US$294 on the internet for a three-night stay in mid-January.
