Background

Since the resumption of domestic flight operations on May 25, Indigo has launched several new initiatives to facilitate smooth air travel within the country. These include the option to book two seats for single passengers and collaborations with Accor Hotels and Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels for special deals and offers.

Check-in

Flight 6E-6349 was scheduled for departure at 1600 hours from Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. I entered the terminal after displaying my green status on the Aarogya Setu app. The on-ground staff at the check-in counter wore face masks, face shields and gloves; and ensured that travellers maintained adequate distance from each other. Along with the boarding pass, I was given a self declaration form that needed to be filled before boarding. The form is also available online on Indigo’s website.

Boarding

After collecting the safety kit that consisted of a face mask, a face shield and sanitiser, I proceeded to board the aircraft while social distancing. Although, I must mention that some passengers seemed to be in too much of a hurry that they were constantly flouting the rules, and had to be frequently reminded by the staff to maintain safe space. Make sure to keep your e-pass and other travel documents ready to avoid any delay or hindrance while boarding.

The seat

The Airbus A320 aircraft has 180 seats in an all-economy class configuration. Fortunately, I got an aisle seat. The seat was decent and comfortable for a quick nap. Passengers in the middle seat had to wear wrap-around gowns as part of personal protective equipment.

Best seat

Choose emergency exit row seats for extra legroom. Also, try and avoid the middle seat as far as possible, in this pandemic period.

The flight

It was a rather peaceful and quiet journey as passenger movement was limited onboard. Since it was a two hour flight, I had ample amount of time to sleep and also catch an episode of my new favourite series on Netflix, on my phone. During the flight, the cabin crew was cordial and able to maintain a hygienic inflight environment.  Meals needed to be pre-booked.

Arrival

I landed in Cochin International Airport around 1830 hours, owing to the delay in departure. The de-boarding was done row wise. I will have to admit that it was a pleasing view to see the aisle empty and not crowded with customers waiting to get down.

Verdict: A safe and hygienic air journey ensured by a well-equipped staff.
