Singapore Changi airport – the world’s seventh busiest airport for international traffic – welcomed 3.4 million passengers from India in 2015.

Mumbai, India’s commercial capital, was the airport’s fastest growing route, with 8.2 per cent growth and 500,000 passengers last year.

“In terms of traffic, the top five Indian cities for Changi Airport are Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi, Bangalore and Tiruchirappalli,” said an airport official.

India is a growing market for Singapore, with Singapore Airline’s low-cost arms Silk Air and Tiger Air flying to the country. Recently, the airline’s low-cost and medium-haul airline arm Scoot also announced expansion plans to India, with flights beginning March onwards.

Changi Airport accounted a record passenger traffic of 55.4 million last year.

The highest international traffic was generated from Bangkok, Colombo and Guangzhou.

Changi airport handles 6,800 flights a week, with 100 airlines providing connectivity to 320 international cities.
