JetBlue has completed a three-year upgrade of its entire fleet to include its Fly-Fi in-flight wifi service, the airline has announced.
The airline boasts broadband-quality internet access at no additional charge to passengers – most airlines charge fees for wifi, and typically prohibit bandwidth-eating activities such as live video streaming or gaming.
Fly-Fi is now available on all 227 JetBlue Airbus A320, A321, and Embraer 190 aircraft. The upgrade project was launched in December 2013.
Travellers can connect to Fly-Fi as soon as they board the aircraft and can use it until the moment the plane lands. Many in-flight wifi services are available only when the aircraft reaches cruising altitude.
“It’s 2017, and our customers expect to be connected everywhere, whether that be from the comfort of their sofa or 35,000 feet above it,” said Jamie Perry, vice president of marketing for JetBlue.
In addition to Fly-Fi, JetBlue’s inflight entertainment system features 36 channels of free DIRECTV on E190 and A320 aircraft and 100-plus channels on A321 aircraft, as well as 100-plus channels of free SiriusXM radio. The airline’s A321 aircraft also have touchscreen TVs for enhanced control of entertainment programming.
