Flight compensation company EUclaim has released data on which airlines received the highest number of compensation claims in 2016.

The data reveals that Easyjet received the highest number of enquiries, with 15,499 claims while Ryanair came in second place with 9,887 enquiries, some 60 per cent more than the previous year.

British Airways ranked third with 8,117 claims, while Thomas Cook Airlines came in fourth with 7,382 claims. Thomson Airways followed in fifth position with 5,500 enquiries.

Tjitze Noorderhaven, UK Manager for EUclaim said that many complaints were a result of weather-related delays and flight cancellations.

The data also revealed that Norwich airport had the highest number of flight cancellations in 2016. Last year, delays and cancellations at London Heathrow rose by 30 per cent while London Gatwick had 43 per cent more than the previous year.
