Air India will introduce a non-stop link between London and New York (Newark) from August 15, as a fifth-freedom service that originates from Ahmedabad.

The three-times-weekly service will see flight AI171 depart Ahmedabad at 0500 every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, before arriving in London at 1015. The service will then continue on to New York, departing London at 1400 before touching down in Newark at 1500.

The return service, AI172 will depart Newark at 0020 every Monday, Thursday and Friday before arriving in London at 1205. Following a short layover, the flight will take off from the UK capital at 1400 and touch back down in Ahmedabad at 0330 the following day.

To accommodate the new service, the Star Alliance member will discontinue one of its existing Delhi–London services – reducing frequency to twice a day. The “discontinued” flight slot will instead be used for the fifth-freedom link.

Flights will be served by the B787-8, which features a two-class configuration, with 18 seats in business and 238 in economy.
