Singapore Airlines to serve Johannesburg with A350

27 May 2016 by Clement Huang
Singapore Airlines has announced that Johannesburg will become the second long-haul destination for the A350-900. With effect from June 27, the A350 will serve the Singapore–Johannesburg route on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The frequency will progressively increase and will eventually cover all seven weekly Johannesburg flights, including the four that continue on towards Cape Town. Johannesburg makes sense as an A350 destination, as SIA is looking to operate the A350 on long-haul trunk routes that do do not see a lot of first class travellers, which would otherwise be served by either the A380 or B777-300ER. SIA’s A350 is outfitted with a three-class configuration, featuring 42 seats in business, 24 in premium economy and 187 in economy. For a first look of the aircraft, see here. The launch of the A350 to Johannesburg will be followed by Dusseldorf. As previously reported (see here), the aircraft will begin serving daily flights to the German city from July.
