SIA to allow premium economy redemption and upgrades

17 May 2016 by Clement Huang
Singapore Airlines will soon be allowing members of its Krisflyer frequent flyer programme to redeem and upgrade for premium economy class fares. With effect from May 24, Krisflyer members will be able to use their miles for travel in premium economy, while those seeking to upgrade themselves from economy to premium economy, or from premium economy to business will be able to do so from June 1. Customers should note that the airline’s rule for upgrading to the next travel class only is set to remain. This means economy passengers who were previously able to upgrade themselves to business class, will henceforth be limited to upgrading to premium economy. Therefore, Krisflyer members that wish to get a business class upgrade should do so before June 1. Singapore Airlines has updated its redemption and upgrade award charts to reflect the number of Krisflyer miles that will be required to redeem or upgrade a flight in premium economy. Premium economy class was introduced last August (see here), but fares were initially only available for direct purchase. “Premium Economy Class has been very well received since its launch last year and we are pleased to make it available for Krisflyer redemption, now that it is serving more cities in our network,” said Singapore Airlines senior vice president marketing planning, Lee Wen Fen.
