Malaysia Airlines to revamp lounges at KL and Heathrow

3 May 2016 by BusinessTraveller
Malaysia Airlines has announced an “extensive redesign” of its Golden Lounges at Kuala Lumpur International (KLIA) and London Heathrow. Details are limited at present, but the carrier says the new design will “combine elements that are uniquely Malaysian with the modern functionality for a truly enhanced travel experience”. Revamped regional and domestic lounges at KLIA will be unveiled later this year, with business and first class lounges at KLIA’s Satellite terminal and at London Heathrow expected to be completed by the middle of next year. New features will include a demonstration kitchen “allowing guests to interact with chefs”, with the bistro and “snack-on-the-go” options and fine dining in first class lounges. Wifi services will be upgraded, and universal power sockets introduced. The revamped lounges are being designed by KL-based firm Duoz, responsible for projects including the Marriott Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur. Announcing the redesign Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Simmons said: “We want the space to encapsulate the richness of travel with the airline, a luxurious contemporary Malaysian style that our guests will be able to experience when they enter any Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge around the world. The new design will feature an expansive lounge where guests will find a world of amenities to help them recharge, relax or catch up with work. “We are extremely excited about the project which marks the next phase of an exciting products and services roll-out to provide our customers with an enhanced travel experience,” concluded Paul. Current Malaysia Airlines CEO Christoph Mueller spoke of plans for the rebranding of Malaysia Airlines late last year (see news November 12, 2015). Mueller has subsequently resigned from his position and will leave in September, citing "challenging personal ciscumstances" - for a forum discussion on this development click here. malaysiaairlines.com Mark Caswell
