Yesterday afternoon (Monday April 11) saw the arrival of Swiss International Airlines’ first B777-300ER in Hong Kong. The airline’s flagship aircraft was met by officials from Swiss, the Airport Authority of Hong Kong and the Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong for a welcoming ceremony that included an official water salute and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Hong Kong is the first Asian destination for the airline’s B777-300ER. “This is a key milestone in the history of Swiss,” said Emily Chaw, Swiss general manager Hong Kong. Peter Pullem, vice president, head of sales and marketing international, Swiss, added: “We are thrilled to welcome our new flagship Boeing 777-300ER, which offers more comfort, more space and more amenities to all our valued customers, and brings the customer experience to another level. “In addition it brings new reductions in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, which make it more environmentally friendly. This event could not come at a better time to illustrate the partnership between Switzerland and Hong Kong.” The B777-300ER has a complete set of new cabin products across 340 seats – eight in first class, 62 in business and 270 in economy. The cabin interior has been totally redesigned – noteworthy new features include three data packages of wireless internet connectivity; a suite-like first class product that boasts a 32-inch TV, the largest in the industry; seat cushions in business class that can be individually regulated for firmness; and a self-service kiosk offering a wide range of drinks and snacks in economy. Swiss operates daily non-stop flights between Hong Kong and Zurich – the B777-300ER will be used three times weekly, with an Airbus 340-300 serving the remainder. This will increase capacity by more than 25 per cent, which will help with increasing traffic demand between the two destinations. Flight LX138 leaves Zurich at 2245, arriving in Hong Kong the next day at 1630. It then departs HKIA at 2335, arriving back in Zurich at 0610 the following morning. A new route from Zurich to Singapore will begin on September 3.
