From April 5 Delhi international Airport (DIAL) will start repair works on Runway 10/28.
The works are expected to take seven days to complete.
Runways 09/27 and 11/29 will be functional to full capacity — this is an update from earlier news that they will also be under repair in parts (see news March 23).
The runway under repair can handle over 500 flights a day on an average, and its temporary shut down will cause delays on certain flight schedules.
International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) guidelines state that the lifespan of a runway is approximately 20 years, but repair and maintenance work is needed every five to six years.
