Egyptair A320 hijacked

29 Mar 2016 by Tom Otley

An EgyptAir flight carrying 81 passengers from Alexandria to Cairo has been hijacked.

Reports say that the aircraft was hijacked by one man wearing a suicide belt. Flight MS181 was forced to divert and land at Larnaca airport, Cyprus.

Negotiations between EgyptAir and the hijacker have resulted in the release of all but crew members and four international passengers.

The Cyprus Broadcasting Service, the island’s public media channel has announced that the hijacking motive may be more personal than political. The hijacker threw a letter from the aircraft, asking it be delivered to his ex-wife who lives in Cyprus.

EgyptAir (@egyptair) has been prompt in tweeting updates on the situation.
